OUT OF LOVE

He walked up to me and said, "Eugene! Where is it? Why did you take it?" Take what, I asked him.

My friend/neighbour, Mike, could not find his money anymore and according to him, I was the only visitor he has had for two days.

I have never taken anything that doesn't belong to me in my life...except when I was very young, I took a little snack but that's all.

He threatened to report me to the local security if I don't get his money for him as soon as possible. I love my name, I don't want want it to be associated with anything like that. I pleaded to him to wait a while, I'm going to get back to him.

A day later he found the money in his wardrobe among a pile of clothes. He apologized and explained to me why he acted that way.

A lot of us have been accused wrongly in one way or the other...most times we react with anger or sadness and try to prove our innocence. Take a moment to think about Christ...He was accused and condemned for things he didn't do and He never complained but took it all for us out of love.

Jesus loves you.

LOVE IS BLIND

For a long time I've had the concept of love all wrong. I was born into a world where "I love you" requires the "you" to do something for the 'I".

Apostle Paul pointed out that love is blind....not literally
though but it does chooses to be blind. Love chooses to be kind
when you are not. Love chooses to hold on when it's not
reciprocated. Love isn't proud neither does it segregate. Love
isn't about "I" but about "You". Love harbours no vengeful
thought. Love endures all things, believes all things, hope on
all things and it never fails. (1st Cor. 13:4-8)

Christmas reminds us that God loved us first and sacrificed
for us regardless of our actions. We too can show love to our
neighbours regardless of how they've treated us.

Merry Christmas to you all.

WHAT CAN WE GIVE TO GOD

Take a moment to write down what you want God to do for you this New Year, and also write down what you want to do for that orphanage home across the street. If you were to do this, what gift would you ask for? What gift would you give? Think about it.

According to the Bible, God has promised to supply all our needs... which could be in the form of a new job, a life partner, a child, a house etc. But the most important gift we can ever receive is God's gift of His son, our Savior, and with Him forgiveness, restoration and fulfillment, with a crown of life.

What could be the most important gift we can ever give to God? "If i were a wise man, i would do my part. Yet what can i give Him other than to give Him my heart." - Christina G. Rossetti

God doesn’t need our money, our cars, our house… God wants our heart, serving Him in spirit and in truth. Jesus Christ said, “The father seeks worshipers in spirit” and not materialistic worship.

SEARCHING FOR INNER PEACE

I bought goodies on my way back home; one for my little boy and the other for my little girl. The girl is a younger than the boy so i gave her more goodies. My boy felt cheated, and decided to correct the situation – he took some biscuits from his sister forcefully.

When I entered the room to check on them, I realized that my presence made him uncomfortable. My girl walked up to me and told me all that happened.

A preacher once said, “The only thing that will give you peace is when you consider your neighbor
when looking for your solution.” When you consider your neighbor, you are considering Christ.

Love thy neighbor as thy self.

LIVING IN EXTRA TIME

When I lost everything, I went from a man of great importance to a man whose presence was disgusting to others. I couldn’t help but wonder – what exactly did I do wrong? How did I offend God that He had to punish me this way?

Many a time when the tides are against us, we classify it as punishment from God and not a result of our own action.

Jesus’s parable of the fig tree gave us an insight about the mercies of God. A worker ask his boss to give a particular fig tree more time for it to produce after being fruitless for a long time. Like the fig tree, we have not been fruitful but Jesus is still asking for more time for us to be fruitful… delaying God’s judgement.

God is merciful, He has given us more time to turn to Him and be fruitful. A choice to turn to Him and live fruitfully must be made.

AN IDENTITY THAT REFLECTS LOVE

My heart beat suddenly became heavy and went down almost immediately; I slowly lost consciousness. When I woke up so many thoughts ran through my head, mostly questioning who I was and what I had represented.

Am I the friend who comes up with beautiful excuses, or the friend that always wants to make you smile? Am I the colleague that’s sarcastic when seriousness is needed, or the one that gives an undivided attention? Am I the brother that chooses to keep things to himself because he doesn’t want anyone to be worried, the son that never got to be celebrated by his parents, the husband that will go any length just to be around for his children and wife? Whoever am I, am I known for love?

God is love, His actions reflects love – sacrificing His only son for us (John 3:16). God’s love is seen in his wonderful creation.

THE STRENGTH IN LOVING

If love makes one weak, let me be the weakest person alive. Love is thought of today as a tool used by the strong to control the weak. Those who love are considered the weaker vessels, and are usually at the receiving end of a heartbreak.

Usually after an emotional setback, we look for ways to protect ourselves from being a victim of heartbreak. This has led us to run after theories and principles created by man to guide the heart from loving freely.

Yes! Love can take you to the lowest possible state – Jesus took the form of man. Love makes you vulnerable – Jesus was bruised and crucified by his creation. Love usually comes with a sacrifice – Jesus died so that man can have everlasting life. The Bible described love as the greatest and everlasting – Jesus returned back to heaven and He’s sitting the right hand of God; with a name that's greater than any other.

Love can make you look little but it takes true strength to love, to trust and to hope. You are stronger that's why you are able to love.

IS TRUE LOVE POSSIBLE?

“I just can’t trust anyone, they are all the same…” my friend said while in pain. Her story sounded tragic, and it’s a re-occurring incident with her – an ex-boyfriend, whom she thought she could trust, started spreading rumors about her as soon as they ended the relationship.

I couldn’t find the right words to comfort her. One thing I do know is... how difficult it is to find someone to trust, someone that is simply kind… expecting nothing in return. Her story reminded of moments when I had betrayed the trust of others as well as when I was at the receiving end of a betrayal.

It is very easy to find people who will assure you of their loyalty but when trials come, they fail. Solomon wrote, “Most men will proclaim their own goodness; but who can find a faithful man?” – Prov 20:6

Jesus made true love possible – by love shall all men know that you are my disciples (John 13:35). Though some people may continue to hurt us, we reciprocate their hurt with more love.

With our hearts fixated at His love, we find loving others easy.

ALWAYS UNDER HIS WATCHFUL GAZE

Sometimes I felt like my life could have been worse but for some certain reasons, I scaled through life changing situations that could have given my life a different meaning today. I've come to realize that God has always been there keeping my boat steady.

The LORD said in Isaiah 45:5b, "I girded thee, though you have not known me". You and i were under His watchful gaze from birth. God has always been there - keeping us from destroying ourselves, though we didn't deserve it (Rom. 23:3). There have been choices we've made that could have ended terribly but they didn't... we lived to tell the story.

He watches over us while we are sinners, how much more will He do for us when we identify ourselves with Him?

THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING

A student who finds it very difficult to do the simple things that his mate could do or a woman that has been married for years but unable to bear a child or when a man is living a life with no point of direction, some would say that he is bewitched. Life throws many questions at us at different stages but many a time the answer to these questions is not far from our finger tips if only we can choose to listen.

I heard a story of man whose life was not so good. Everything he tries fails, everything he puts his hand into goes south. He met a particular prophet that told him that the answer to his problems lives in his family compound in the village. The prophet told him that he his bewitched by the grand father who happened to be the oldest person in the compound and the most neglected by all his children. This man traveled down to the village to confront his problem. He went straight into the compound to where is grand father was and  started him. Neighbors and passerby gathered around to know what is happening. When they asked him why, He said, "a prophet told him that the oldest man in his family compound is responsible for his failure".

When Jesus encountered a man that was blind from birth, Jesus told him that his condition is not a result of his sin or his father's sin but an occasion to see the power of God. When the blind man followed Jesus's instruction, he was able to see.

Have you ever felt like there's no way forward for you? You are not even sure if there is a God or even if there is, He is not interested in helping you? Jesus is the answer. These miracles were written that you may believe that Jesus is the messiah, the son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name (John 20:30).

INFERIORITY COMPLEX

I'll never be like her. There's no way someone like me can talk to someone like that. Apostle Paul said, "It's unwise for us to compare ourselves with some that commend themselves" (Cor. 10:12).

Still others see less of themselves because of mistakes they've made in the past or sins that held them captive or their background or looks.

The key to loving yourself is to see yourself as Jesus sees you, worth dying for.

DIFFICULTY LOVING OTHERS

Is it really possible to love others? I find that loving others can be a very difficult assignment. Especially when the "others" have treated us badly . . . for example an unfaithful partner, abusive parent, troublesome neighbor etc. Loving such people may seem impossible.

According to Matt. 22:39 (You shall love your neighbor as yourself), loving others is a command and not an option. Because it is a command, we have to CHOOSE to love that person that hurts us, from that choice the love will grow. Loving someone is a choice.

Finally, we are only able to love others base on God's love towards us. He is the source of love, we are only channels.

A TRUE FRIEND

People search for life's meaning in many ways- Wealth, power, status, possessions, and beauty. As alluring as all these may be, people who achieved them are still not satisfied.

A man once said, "It is not until the later years that humans fully grasp the extraordinary value of relationships. . . My greatest treasures by far are my relationships- My wife, my children, grandchildren and close friends and my close bond with the Jesus".

Even when we are denied the intimate relationships of family and friends, there is one who will always be there for us. He said He will never leave you or forsake you. . . I no longer call you servants but friends (John 15:15)
