OPEN REBUKE IS BETTER THAN HIDDEN LOVE

"Open rebuke is better than hidden love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but kisses of an enemy are deceitful" (Pro. 27:6,7). The truth hurts. . . bruises our ego, makes us uncomfortable and often calls for change. Many a time we gather around people that fuels our ego, we call them friends because we love what they tell us. We want people that sugarcoats the truth, people that won't tell us exactly the way we are. And when a few do find people that sees us for who we really are, pointing out our shortcomings, we quickly become defensive and lash back at them with hurtful words.

True friends don't find pleasure in hurting us, but rather they love us too much to deceive us. Irrespective of how you may feel, a true friend will not allow you to continue on a dangerous path that may lead to the destruction of your personality. They are friends with loving courage, who points out our deficiency that we may already know but find it hard to accept.

We love to be praised and we're often destroyed by it. Most people, because of what they can get from us often flatter us with cheap praises. But the one who points our deficiency are the ones that wants us to grow.  A friend is one who can tell you the truth in love.
