The everyday life of a young Christian

MARITAL ABUSE AND THE PURPOSE OF MARRIAGE

Abuse occurs whenever we don’t know the purpose for which something is created for. Today we hear things like wife and husband abuse almost every day. I want to believe that was not the original intention of the abuser – no one gets married just to become an abuser, but it is the way it is because a lot of us have very little knowledge about marriage and its purpose.

A log of wood and a beautiful dress can burn when either is used in setting up a camp fire but only one of them is meant for that purpose, wood. The absence of wood doesn’t make the dress appropriate for setting up a camp fire.  Therefore loneliness, sexual urge, age, beauty, money, and so on are not the main reason for getting married because they are all canal, and their satisfaction is only temporary.

If your friend ask you to marry him, but he doesn’t know the of purpose of marriage, you would be wise to reject his proposal until he discovers the God given for purpose of marriage otherwise, he will abuse both the marriage and, as a result, you.
It is important that we don’t move into marriage until we know God’s purpose for giving us that relationship.

Many have been victims of abuse because of lack of knowledge. Therefore it is very important that we ask ourselves... What is the purpose of my relationship? Why am i in this relationship? Why do i need to get married? If the purpose of your relationship does not glorify God then there is something wrong somewhere. Answers to these questions in general can help bring clarity to our hearts and will go a long way in having a fruitful marriage.

Above all it is important to ask God for guidance whenever we are about to make a life changing decision. There are things we cannot see, we do not understand but God knows... His guidance will keep us in the right path always.
