SIX BENEFITS OF BEING CLOSER TO GOD

God's promises to those who are closer to Him

1. Peace of Mind

And He said, my presence shall go with thee, and i shall give thee rest - Exodus 33:14

2. Courage in Facing Life’s Battle

When you go out to fight against your enemies and you see chariots and  and horses and an army that outnumbered yours, do not be afraid of them. The LORD your God who rescued you from Egypt will be with you. - Deuteronomy 20:1

3. When Trouble Comes, You Will Not Be Defeated

When you pass through deep waters, i will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burnt; the hard trials that come will not hurt. - Isaiah 43:2

4. Fearless in The Face of Death
Though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; for your rod and your staff they comfort me - Psalm 23:4

5. Your Adversaries Will Be Subdued (Josh. 18:1)

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them. - Joshua 18:1

6. God Will Be A Father To You

If God is our father, our case is settled

INCREASE YOUR FAITH

A man with a closed arm is a man that isn’t ready to receive. Faith is like an arm, with it you can receive from God. Without faith it is impossible to receive from God, without faith it is impossible to have anything with God.

A pastor raised his hand and people fell down, you prayed for seven days and night but nothing happened – the sick is still sick, the lame did not walk. You believe in God but nothing happens when you pray. What is wrong? You need to have the faith required to receive from God.

"And straightaway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, i believe; help my unbelief" - Mark 9:24

Sometimes our faith is not strong enough to receive the answer to the request we presented to God; that is why Peter urged us to grow in faith and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We have a Father that gives all things, He will give unto us the faith we needed to receive the answers we desire if we only ask Him to increase our faith.

EVEN STORMS HAVE A PURPOSE

The word ‘storm’ usually means trouble or disaster; but rarely do we envision it as means through which God can communicate with us. When Jonah was running away from God, he boarded a ship going in opposite direction to the place God had sent him. While at sea, a violent storm nearly broke the ship apart. The sailors threw all the cargoes overboard but it changed nothing. When Jonah told them about his disobedience to God, they decided was eventually thrown overboard, the storm ceased.

If the sailors had known that Jonah’s disobedience was the cause of the storm, they wouldn’t have wasted so much time and effort looking for a solution.

There’s no storm in life that’s without a cause or purpose – it may be to show us who we truly are, to show us who our friends are, to build and make us better, to enable us understand the meaning of life etc.
Jesus replied His disciples, “He was blind from birth so that the work of the LORD might be displayed in his life” – John 9:3

ATTRIBUTES OF GOD THAT MAKES HIM TRUSTWORTHY

I was born into a family of nine, living together under one roof. We eat together, sleep together and rise up early in the morning together. That was our normal average routine for a day, and for a while it seems as if things will always remain the same.

Today we are in different parts of the country, some of us are easily accessible while some are not; every one with different goals and agendas.

The fact that time changes man disqualifies man from trust – Man has a beginning and an end, man is not the same yesterday, today and forever, and man can die.

God is a supreme being that has always been and will always be. His character changeth not. He is the I AM THAT I AM, He was there at the beginning and will also be there at the end. God is the same yesterday, today and forever which makes Him dependable.

God is not a man that He should lie nor the son of man that He should repent.

WHAT TURNS YOU ON?

A pastor once met a shy lady in a lonely corridor, busy doing her chores in the church and asked her: “What turns you on?” The lady looked at the pastor speechless, and was probably wondering, “is pastor alright?”

The next morning, the pastor told the congregation, if you do not know what turns you on, then I’m sorry, you are not ready to embrace your purpose.

By 12, Jesus already knew what turned him on. When His mother found Him at the temple, Jesus asked her, “don’t you know I must be about my Father’s business” (Luke 2:49).

Sometimes we walk so blindly through life without taking out time to ask ourselves… Why am I here? Why did I wake up this morning? What does God expect from me?

When you know what turns you on, you will have more cause to pray, study the Bible and have a deeper relationship with Christ.

NO ONE KNOWS YOU LIKE GOD

Days in which I had trusted my own agenda; I’ve been desperate, anxious, scared, filled with uncertainty, and easily frightened. God showed me my plans, my reservations, my pride, my selfishness and how much I needed Him.

David wrote, “Search me, LORD, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” (Ps. 139:23). Even though David asked the LORD to search him, he was already aware that God knew him very well (Ps. 139:1).  Today I find myself asking God to take away all of my cares and motives, and replaced them with His; because I know that He knows what’s best for me.

The best day of your life is the day you realize that you are desperate without Christ. Then you see yourself as He sees you, complete in Him. A man not of this world but of God.

HOW TO PRAY WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW THE RIGHT WORDS TO USE

How good it is to know that we do not need to get our words right when we want to talk to God! Whatever we need to say during prayer need not sound perfect to our ears. We only need to talk. He loves us and knows us well enough to understand.

David said, “There is not a word in my tongue, O LORD which you do not know” (Psalm 139:4). How wonderful it is know that before any word comes to our heart, God already knows it. Even when we are finding it difficult to put our request into words, He knows it. God looks past our words into our hearts.

It is wonderful to know that our God is “all knowing”. He is omnipresent. He knows it all and has seen it all. He gives us a knowing smile and expresses exactly what we cannot put to words. All we need do is to call on Him. He is gracious and full of mercy; He will answer us.

THE AMAZING RACE

The amazing race is a reality TV show where couples are sent to a foreign country where they must race via train, taxi, bus, bikes and their feet, from point to another where they get the next set of instructions for the next challenge. The goal is for one of the couples to get to the finish line before anyone else, and the prize is one million dollars.

The Christian life can be likened to a race just as Apostle Paul did in Phil. 3:13-14, "Brothers and sisters, i do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and moving toward what is ahead. I press toward the goal to win the prize" (Phil. 3:13-14). He didn't allow his past failures to weigh him down or his present success to make him complacent. He acknowledge the fact that he is not there yet and needs to keep pressing on.

We are running this race too. Irrespective of our failures or success, lets keep pressing on toward the ultimate goal.  We have to acknowledge the fact that we are incomplete and only God's grace can help us to be strong finishers in the Christian life.

THE SURE WAY TO GET HELP

I was inside a commercial bus when a man with baby of about a year old stopped the bus. The man carried the baby with one hand and a fairly big nursing bag with the other. He was finding it difficult to enter the bus with the baby and the bag until a lady helped him with the bag. He was full of appreciation and his face lifted up. From the expression on his face and the way he was struggling, you could tell he wasn't used to it. One could even suggest that he's a single parent.

A lot of us have been in situation whereby we have little or no idea on how to carry out a particular task but because there's no other person to do it, we are left to ourselves and in desperate need for assistance.

The LORD is the help of the helpless. When we look to Him for answers, He has promised to never leave us or forsake us. If you depend on man, you will end up being disappointed, frustrated. . . At the end of the day you blame God for our misfortunes.

Jesus asked us to cast our cares and burden upon Him. Why not do that today?
