FINDING FAITH IN DEAD SITUATION

Knowing God’s opinion about all things settles every case. Mid last year, 2016, I applied for postgraduate studies; having met all the requirements, I was expecting my name to be out on the admission list. When the admission list came out toward the end of the year, my name was not on the list. Literally, that means I wasn’t accepted into the department. But God said that which you said in my ear is exactly what I will do. I was very specific in my request to God, and then He said the answer to my prayer is Yes and Amen.

Faith without work is dead, and hence they must go together. Knowing that God wants it for me, it became a settled issue in my heart. I need not worry anymore because God’s word is final. I believe and trusted Him to do that which only He can do. When i was asked about my admission, I simply replied, "it’s still on the way". I put my faith into work by making inquiries about the admission list; why my name was not there having met the requirements for admission. A professor at the department told me I was at fault for not submitting my transcript though I consulted a lot of people before taking that decision, but now it seems as if all those that advised me not to submit it are now quiet. I didn’t relent, I kept making inquiries after I found out that there were others that didn’t submit but were offered admission. I met another professor that directed to a particular office within the department for assistance. I was told it was an error on the part of the department, and that I was not the only one affected. They assured me that it will be rectified and another list will be released as soon as possible. After a couple of months, another list was released but my name was not in that list as well. I went back to the school for clarification. When I got to the department, they told me that the problem is not from them. They advised me to go the department of postgraduate studies to find out why. At the department of postgraduate studies, I was directed from one office to the other until I could find someone that gave me a reason. The lady I met told me there was an omission in their system. I smiled and said, ‘glory to God’. The major reason I kept going back to the school was because I knew I ought to be given admission not because I met the requirements but because God has settled it. I could have given up on the whole admission the first time my name was omitted but because of God’s report I had to believe that there’s something that can still happen. Even in dead situations, God is still God.

Grace – God’s unmerited favour which He gas dished out to every one of us, qualifies us beyond man’s understanding. I had a first-hand experience of God’s grace. Irrespective of the people I came in contact with, nothing would have been possible if not for His grace; it's grace that kept me going, that took me to the right office, which allowed me to meet them on their good day. I know for a fact that nothing can stop God’s plan for us.

GOD'S NEW COVENANT WITH MAN

If the old covenant had been faultless, then there wouldn't have been need for a new covenant (Heb. 8:7). If the works of the law guarantees righteousness, there won't be a need for Christ's death (Gal. 2:21). For finding fault in the old covenant, the Lord said i will make a new covenant with my people (Heb. 8:8). No more shall they say, know the LORD: for all shall know me, from the greatest to the least (Heb.8:11), in every part of the world. For i will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will i remember no more.

He has made a new covenant, and the first old (Heb. 8:12). God gave us a new covenant established on better promises (Heb. 8:6), so we will no longer be judged based on works but by faith in Christ Jesus.

This is the new covenant says the LORD, I will put my laws into their hearts and write it in their minds; And their sins and iniquities will i remember no more. No more offering for the remission of sin, but by a new and living through the Blood of Jesus Christ. He that promised us is faithful.

WHY DO CHRISTIANS SIN?

"If we claim to be without sin then the truth is not in us." (1 John 1:8). From this passage it is clear that even those that are born again do sin; through thought and action we will grieve the Holy Spirit at times. But the Bible has told us of a continual grace that will cleanse of us our iniquities whenever we agree with God about our sin and ask for forgiveness.

However, "Those who have been born of God will not continue to live in sin"- 1 John 3:9. This simply means a fish cannot remain on land for long, it's nature is to seek water. When you have given your life to Jesus, He erases your past and transform your heart to a new heart that we no longer desires sin (Colossians 2:13-14). It was easier for you to sin and not be bothered about it, but now your heart troubles you deeply when you step out of line.

Paul asked, "Shall we continue to sin that grace may abound? God forbid! we are dead to sin; how can we continue to live in it" (Romans 6:1-2). When you are born again, the new heart given by the Holy spirit brings about a different reaction to sin. Sin cannot continue to be a lifestyle of choice for Christians that have totally surrendered their lives to Jesus.

Romans 12:2 commands us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. Renewal can take some time, but it is a process that produces a change of behaviour. In this process of trying to let go of our old selves, we may find ourselves falling prey to an old habit; God's spirit reminds us of who we are now and our purpose here on earth.

Do Christians sin? Yes. Do they continue to live in sin? No. The Bible says, “all have fallen short of the glory of God due to sin" (Romans 3:23), we have hope that the power of God is at work in us to make us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image (2 Corinthians 3:18).

WE ARE TOO HUMANS

I may be as bad as you think. But believe me, if it were not for Christ, I would have been worse. I always want to do what is right but sometimes i ended up doing what is wrong. My inner being delights in doing good but i see another force working in me.

A lot of slumbering Christians or morally structured individuals can relate to this; Apostle Paul described it in Rom.7:23, "I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members".

When we come in faith to Christ admitting our sins and in need of a savior, we immediately become a new creature, but our spiritual growth is a lifelong journey that only gets better. According to 1st John 3:2, "Now we are sons of God, and it DOES NOT YET APPEAR what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like Him. . ."

The more we get to know Christ and be like Him, the stronger we get in denying the desires of our flesh.

A lot of churches today have a habit of requesting for an item or a list of items, some even go as far as requesting for money to buy these so called spiritual items for spiritual cleansing. In an act of desperation we are force to concur to their demands, probably because we've heard about miracles they've performed or somebody close to us gave us their word that these pastors or prophets are the real deal. The Bible says that God's people do perish because of lack of understanding. In light of this, let me share my thoughts with you in accordance to the scripture.

In the Old Testament burnt offerings and sacrifices are required for the remission of sin, and it is done yearly simply because the blood of animals can not completely set us from sin. God established a new covenant by which we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all (Heb. 8:10).

So therefore, for the remission of sin there's no need for offerings and sacrifice (Heb. 10:18).We need to beware of fake prophets/pastors you to come for spiritual cleansing, bath in the river or buying of some items for one reason or the other. Don't let the devil deceive you. All that is required of us is having faith in God; accept Christ as our Lord and personal savior, and it is done.

NO LONGER UNDER THE LAW

For long I have been asked this question, “Are we still under the law of Moses?” This question has been very difficult to answer because we as Christians are not supposed to commit adultery or steal etc. And we are judged by these actions. Jesus Christ did tell us that He came to fulfill the law, but we also know that ‘an eye for an eye’ no longer goes in the Christendom as Jesus clearly says that we ought to offer the other side of the cheek when slapped. The following paragraph may us to understand why I say that we are no longer under the law.

If righteousness comes by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. (Gal. 2:21). We believe in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified (Gal. 2:16). Everyone that is under the law is cursed: for it is written, Cursed is everyone that continues not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them (Gal. 3:10) Glory to God as Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law: it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree (Gal. 3:13). Again, no law was given which could have given life; but it is written, Whosoever that believes in Him (Jesus), will not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

But before faith came, we were under the law; the law was like a schoolmaster bringing us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith is come, we are no longer under the law.  For you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. (Gal. 3:23-25).

"Works of the law", what does it mean? A lot of us feel that by obeying the ten commandments and keeping all the statues of old we are automatically qualified into God's kingdom. The Bible made us to understand that we are saved not by works but by faith in Christ Jesus. Jesus said, "i am the way the truth and the life, no more comes to the father except through me" (John 14:6).
