THE BEAUTY OF SILENCE
The deacon and I paired up together during evangelism. We
approached a lady sitting at the veranda of her house. The lady rebuked us, “I
already know what the Bible says, I don’t need you”. I was tempted to reply but
the deacon ushered us to go after saying to her, “God bless you.”
Many a time we want to reply to show how knowledgeable we
are or proclaim our holiness, but there’s much to learn while being silent… the
little we know now we acquire as a result of being silent.
By being silent we welcome God’s judgement – “The LORD is in
His holy temple; let all the earth be silent before Him” (Habakkuk 2:20). All
the earth: the oppressed and the oppressor, sinners and saints, literates and
illiterates.
Silence allows us to recognize our own deficiency, and it allows us to surrender the need to judge and condemn others by trusting God to be God
