NOTHING LASTS FOREVER
When I reflected on the first four semesters in the
university, so many things were different from the plans I had before I got
admission. And the last semester in school became scary, really scary . . . The
person I was, the plans I had were all gone. Nothing remained the same.
Many things can happen in five years – newfound friendship,
career change, marriage, illness, death. Good or bad, a life changing
experience may just be around the corner waiting to happen. We simply do not
know the form it will take or when it will happen.
David wrote, “You remain the same. . .” (Psalm 102:27). The implications
of these words are immense – we have a Father that forever loves, forever cares,
will always provide, a Father that is forever just and wise. Whatever the
attributes of God were, they are still His attributes and they will never
change.
Every good and perfect gift is from God, who does not change
(James 1:17); even in our changing circumstances, God will always be consistent
to His character . . . His plans for us will not change.
Though nothing lasts forever, we have a Father who changes
not; He will remain good to those who are His own.
