HOW FAITH GROWS
“Consider it pure joy,” James said, “whenever you face
trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces
perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and
complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:2-4).
It is very difficult to be joyful during trials – when we’ve
had our heart broken or having no single dine to our name or being labelled a
failure when everything we do ends in disaster. James is telling us that at
times like this we should encourage ourselves that these trials will help us
reach maturity and be complete in Christ, lacking nothing.
Job came face to face with his greatest fear – lost his
family and wealth, and was struck down with sickness; but he persevered and at
the end, he received twice as much as he had lost.
Faith grows in times of difficulty; these difficulties show
us who we really are in Christ Jesus. If we continue to trust Him, His light
will lead us to walk on waters.
