WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LIVING

The purpose of living in today’s world is centered on possession and achievement; a girl whose thought is centered on being crowned the most beautiful girl, a young boy whose desire is to date only the beautiful girls in town, a man whose dream is to possess the highest qualifications, a girl that secretly desires to be worshiped by men etc.

Sometimes when we focus our mind to get something done or achieve something, we are prepared to go the extra mile, destroy the lives of those around, ruin relationships, take advantage of people or even kill in order to possess these things (James 4:2). This is because we think only of ourselves and our goals, and we are controlled by what we see, hear and can touch. We may not necessarily kill or step on toes but our own happiness will be dependent on these possessions or achievements.

Jesus Christ warns that we should be careful because a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses (Luke 12:15) nor should our happiness be dependent on them. Apostle Paul said we ought not to live for ourselves, but for Him who died for us and rose again (2 Corinthians 5:15).

Our sole purpose is to live for Christ.
