THE ROLE OF A CHRISTIAN IN HIS NEIGHBORHOOD

One of the greatest challenges in my Christian life is relating with the world around, especially in situations where my friends, colleagues and family members live a life that is very different from mine. At first I tried to get them to Christ by assimilating with them; I ended up stumbling. Staying away from them was the most logical choice then.

I do not want to get sucked into the world nor judge anybody for being in the world because I was once in the world until God pulled me out. I wanted to guide my salvation at all cost so I chose who to relate with and not to relate with, but in doing so . . . I found myself in a loop – judging, condemning and stumbling anytime I mingle. This continued until God showed me the flaw in my plan.

Jesus showed us a balanced approach. He neither assimilated nor separated Himself. He related to everyone where they were without compromise . Apostle Paul also related with Jews, law makers etc. without compromising His faith with the sole purpose of winning them to Christ (1 Corinthians 9:19-22).

My role in my family, among my friends and colleagues is to show them the kind of love Christ showed me by being a friend, a colleague, a brother, a sister, a father, a mother, and a son without compromising my identity in Christ.
